Trevor Story hits a walk-off home run vs the Brewers, a breakdown
What Happened
With the Colorado Rockies and Milwaukee Brewers locked in a close game, Trevor Story steps up to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Rockies are trailing by one run, but Story is determined to end the game with a dramatic walk-off hit. Facing off against Brewers pitcher Josh Hader, Story works the count full, fouling off a few tough pitches. On the 3-2 delivery, Hader tries to sneak an inside fastball past Story, but the Rockies shortstop is ready. He turns on the pitch and unleashes a towering drive that sails deep into the Colorado night. As the ball climbs higher and higher, Story thinks it might go foul, but the trajectory carries it over the wall. The Coors Field crowd erupts in cheers as Story rounds the bases, pumping his fist in celebration. Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon comes out to greet Story at home plate, the two players sharing an enthusiastic high-five. "I thought it was going foul at first, but then I just kind of flicked it," Story says in a postgame interview. "You know, it's juice ball season, so I just crushed it." The All-Star shortstop is clearly elated, his infectious joy evident as he dances around the field with his teammates. Rockies first baseman Ian Desmond joins the celebration, spraying Story with Gatorade as the jubilant players mob their hero. "Oh my god, guys, come on," Story exclaims, struggling to keep a straight face. The walk-off blast caps off an impressive September for the Rockies, who have now recorded four such game-winning hits this month. Though Colorado will not be advancing to the playoffs, this dramatic victory provides a fitting end to their 2022 campaign. Trevor Story's heroics have sent the Rockies faithful home happy and the team can look ahead to next season with renewed optimism.
