What Happened

In the bottom of the 10th inning with the game tied 1-1, Houston Astros first baseman Yuli Gurriel steps up to the plate. The pitcher tries to work Gurriel outside with off-speed pitches, but Gurriel fouls them off. On the next pitch, the pitcher elevates a fastball and Gurriel crushes it deep to left field for a walk-off home run. Gurriel tosses his helmet in celebration as his teammates rush out to greet him, with Michael Brantley and Lance McCullers Jr. attempting to douse him with Gatorade. However, their Gatorade dump is less than graceful, with the liquid missing Gurriel entirely. The following night, Gurriel is up again in a similar situation, with a runner on first base and the game tied. This time, the umpire is hit in the foot by a pitch, allowing the runner to advance to second base. Gurriel works the count to 2-0, then drives the next pitch deep to left-center field. Outfielder Malik Smith makes a valiant effort to catch it, but the ball sails over his glove for another walk-off hit. Gurriel's Astros teammates, led by second baseman José Altuve, celebrate wildly as Gurriel rounds the bases. After the game, the Astros attempt another Gatorade celebration, but outfielder Jake Marisnick simply tosses some bubble gum at Gurriel instead, to the dismay of the grounds crew who will have to clean it up. Gurriel's back-to-back walk-off heroics have saved the day for the Astros and the team is riding high after their star first baseman delivered in the clutch on consecutive nights.
