Cairo Santos misses four field goals in one game, a breakdown
What Happened
Cairo Santos, the kicker for the Tennessee Titans, is having a disastrous day on the field. In the first quarter, he lines up for a 50-yard field goal attempt but misses wide left. His teammates try to encourage him, as Santos is the first Brazilian-born player to ever make it to the NFL. On his next try, a 36-yard chip shot, Santos again misses, this time going wide right. His teammates continue to offer support, but Santos is clearly frustrated, not giving them the benefit of the doubt. The opposing coach even expresses gratitude to "God" for Santos' struggles. As the game goes on, Santos' woes continue. He misses another short field goal, this one going low. Now 0-for-3 on the day, the jokes about his performance are no longer funny and his own teammate questions why the Titans signed him. Despite the mounting pressure, Santos' teammates keep trying to pick him up and encourage him. On his fourth attempt, a 53-yarder in the fourth quarter, Santos again misses, this time going wide left. It's a heartbreaking sight and you can see the despair on Santos' face as he contemplates potentially being released. In a show of support, Titans wide receiver Corey Davis comes over to console Santos, but the kicker is clearly devastated by his dismal performance. that Santos was indeed released by the Titans the very next day, a sad ending to his tough outing. This was a rough day at the office for Cairo Santos, the Brazilian-born kicker for the Tennessee Titans. He missed all four of his field goal attempts, struggling mightily from distances of 50 yards, 36 yards and 53 yards. Despite his teammates' best efforts to lift his spirits, Santos could not find his rhythm and his frustration was palpable. In the end, his struggles proved too much and he was released by the Titans the following day. It was a humbling experience for the NFL's first Brazilian-born player, but he'll look to bounce back and prove himself with another team down the road.
