Referees missed two first down calls in Bills AFC Championship loss to Chiefs, a breakdown
What Happened
The Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs are locked in a close AFC Championship game, with the game hanging in the balance in the fourth quarter. Buffalo is driving, facing a crucial third-and-3 situation. Josh Allen, the Bills' star quarterback, takes the snap and fakes a handoff before running outside, seemingly picking up the first down. However, the referees mark him short of the line to gain. The Bills quickly line up to run a quarterback sneak, with Allen attempting to push the pile forward. The officials convene, with some signaling first down and others indicating the play came up short. a popular sports analyst, breaks down the sequence using multiple camera angles and digital editing. He argues that the initial third-down spot was incorrect, as Allen's forward progress had clearly extended beyond the first-down marker. On the subsequent fourth-down attempt, the officials again rule that Allen was stopped short of the line, despite 's analysis suggesting otherwise. Kansas City takes over on downs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes leads a touchdown drive that ultimately proves to be the difference in the game. After the contest, Bills quarterback Josh Allen acknowledges the missed calls, saying, "If only I got those spots, maybe things would have gone differently." The video breakdown highlights the challenges of officiating in the NFL, where split-second decisions on the placement of the football can have major implications on the outcome of a game. Despite the controversial calls, the Chiefs prevail 27-24, advancing to the Super Bowl. 's detailed analysis underscores the importance of accurate officiating in high-stakes NFL playoff matchups, leaving Bills fans to wonder how the game might have unfolded had the officials made the correct rulings on those crucial third- and fourth-down plays.

Click timestamps to jump to that momenteverybody's talking about these spots in
the game between Buffalo and Kansas City
so let's take a look this breakdown is
brought to you by Captain Morgan we're
going to dive in this is basically
science science by video editing third
and three fake the inside handoff go
outside get the first they say we got it
Kansas City comes up they don't say no
just 23 was like no I don't think so and
then okay they didn't get it they got to
hurry up up clocks ticking clock's
ticking clock's ticking clock's ticking
didn't get it by half a yard okay QB
sneak and pushed him over the line no
what's going to be the call everyone's
pointing Every Which Way one official
comes in on the line the other official
comes in inside the line and everyone's
pointing and we got tons of pointing
lots of pointing and they say they
stopped them let's take a look at my
very scientific replays okay as you see
we've got Allan hugging the ball
everyone I saw saying it was on his
right side but it's more on his left
side and it's dead center he's just bare
hugging that thing problem is the
chief's player gets in the way of our
view don't worry I edited with science I
made the chief's player invisible to
give us some insight into where that
ball actually is there you go
that's where the ball is he's hugging it
right in front of his chest he's got a
good grip see okay so that's where the
ball is now see that pylon behind let's
just drag that down a little bit that's
a straight line come on lower lower keep
going I've got the head of the football
over that dang line and that official's
got a great view of it this is great
news great news for Buffalo the chief
say no we stopped him we stopped him
they say no let's take another look okay
we've got Josh Allen in yellow to make
it easier and he's okay is he over the
line
here that seems to be the farthest we
go and you can see there's some I synced
it up see uh the left foot of 66 see how
it's down right there it's down at the
dash line so between his foot where am I
between his little foot right here and
there and Allan is all the way over here
so you have like the angle on the camera
that is one yard away from first down
and Allen's there so that seems like
they're pretty close again this is
science by editing which is backed by
none believed by everyone and then he
falls down short okay another view now
we know this is the view I was talking
about I saw a lot of people saying cuz
this view I mean you go from from the
line and then just you know up this
dude's butt and up the line and like
yeah he looks like he's there there well
you don't know where the ball is well we
do know where the ball is it's kind of
dead center it's right under his chin
right uh and that line we're just going
to ride that straight up where's his
chin the ball's under his chin the
ball's on both sides of his chin I got
first down by my science by editing I
have that as a first down judging from
the three angles and all of the work
that I did on them and then here's the
other angle and I mean that one looks
like he's you know his butt's over his
head's over the ball's
over the problem is spotting a football
in the NFL is dumb I've talked about
this on many breakdowns and it's just my
opinion 85 to 99% of the game the old
ref just runs in and puts it down and no
one gives a and then when it
matters they're like let's take a look
and they're like actually it missed by
this much because they were thinking
about inches when they put it down this
dude's just zigzagging his ass in now
granted he would have marked it a first
down this player number 20 gets in his
way and he kind of has to go around him
he he Peaks inside right here Peaks
under his arm and that brings him off
the course he was originally running
this guy's running completely inside the
line is it is it whoever gets the ball
that's who puts it down what if you have
data on the officials and you know hey
this dude is always more uh he always
favors like half a yard further and this
guy is always a couple inches short so
don't hand the ball to this this guy
hand it to this guy do we have data like
MLB like this guy likes a wide Strike
Zone this guy likes a tight strike zone
so silly they're running in and the guy
up top is on the other side of the 40
yard line and the guy in the bottom is
on the other side so they would have
spotted at different things just depends
on who gets the ball how does it work
what happens anyway they review it
clearly they don't have my science
backed by editing and this is what they
say after review rolling on the field
stands is called first down Kansas City
and everyone at home's watching hey but
it's actually the first spot that was
more egregious you did all the the the
science on the second spot the first
spot the third and three oh you're right
because the official probably thought
his knee went down but his knee was not
down see they probably thought his knee
was down there there so he marks it
there but his knee was not down and he's
able to actually switch the ball and get
it out by the time his elbow goes down
ball lands he's on the line and then
they marked it
there on the line there so yeah that
that spot is way more gous look how this
dude comes flying in what's your job
what's this process put a chip in the
ball follow it look at this he steps in
between and then he's going to curve
towards the line and then he's going to
banana peel in and just like that's good
this doesn't matter does it and momes
gets the ball he's in Midfield he's
going to do whatever he wants runs gets
some yards the very next play throws
gets a ton of yards and then a couple
plays later boom boom boom touchdown and
that really changed the game oh
oh everyone's talking and then at the
very end minute 30 left they pick up the
first down Chiefs win over and over and
over Crimson and Clover the Chiefs win
Josh Allen said if only I got those
spots maybe things would have went
differently maybe that's what he's
thinking maybe it's not maybe this
