Yankees Pitcher uses funky deliveries to trick Shohei Ohtani, a breakdown
What Happened
In a crucial matchup between the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Angels, star pitcher Nestor Cortés takes the mound against the league's premier two-way player, Shohei Ohtani. Ohtani has already hit two home runs in the game, and Cortés knows he needs to find a way to slow down the unstoppable slugger. As Ohtani steps into the batter's box, Cortés begins unleashing an array of unorthodox pitching deliveries to disrupt the hitter's timing. First, he employs a quick pitch, catching Ohtani off guard. Then, he goes into his standard delivery before surprising Ohtani with an exaggerated, drawn-out wind-up, pausing multiple times before releasing the pitch. Ohtani swings and misses at Cortés' curveball, putting him in a two-strike count. Sensing an opportunity, Cortés takes his showmanship to the next level, going through an astounding 10-11 distinct leg kicks and hesitations before finally delivering the pitch. The umpire is visibly confused by Cortés' antics, but allows the play to continue. "What are you doing, man?" Ohtani exclaims, laughing in disbelief at the pitcher's unorthodox tactics. Cortés' unorthodox delivery disrupts Ohtani's timing, and the superstar slugger is unable to drive the ball, instead making weak contact for a routine fly out. As Ohtani trots back to the Angels' dugout, he shares a chuckle with his teammates, acknowledging the sheer absurdity of Cortés' performance. "I don't know what he was doing," Ohtani says, shaking his head. Cortés, meanwhile, relishes the opportunity to outsmart one of baseball's biggest stars. "Maybe all that nonsense worked," he says, a grin spreading across his face. The Yankees' crafty left-hander has found a way to slow down the unstoppable Ohtani, at least for one at-bat. The exchange between Cortés and Ohtani underscores the constant battle of wits between pitchers and hitters in baseball. While Ohtani's raw power and talent are unquestioned, Cortés demonstrates that even the best hitters can be thrown off by unorthodox tactics and deception. As the game continues, the drama between these two elite players is sure to captivate fans and analysts alike.
