What Happened

In the 10th inning of Game 4 of the NLDS, the Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals are tied 1-1. Kolten Wong of the Cardinals opens the inning with a ground-rule double. First baseman Paul Goldschmidt is then intentionally walked by Braves pitcher Julio Teheran. With runners on first and third and one out, veteran catcher Yadier Molina steps to the plate. Molina, who has struggled against Teheran in the past, works a 1-0 count. Teheran tries to jam him with a fastball inside, but Molina is able to put the ball in play, hitting a sacrifice fly to drive in the winning run. Kolten Wong scores from third, giving the Cardinals a 2-1 victory and evening the series at two games apiece. As Molina jogs down the first base line, he unleashes an emphatic celebration, flinging his helmet and pumping his fist. His teammates mob him at home plate, with the veteran catcher at the center of the raucous scene. Molina had earlier tied the game with an RBI single and his game-winning sac fly completes the comeback. Braves star outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. takes exception to Molina's emotional display, making a throat-slashing gesture towards the Cardinals dugout. Molina responds in kind, engaging in a brief war of words and gestures with Acuña. Molina's Cardinals teammate looks on, attempting to calm the situation, but the veteran catcher is clearly fired up after the dramatic victory. The win forces a decisive Game 5 between the longtime National League rivals. Molina, a future Hall of Famer, has once again proven his ability to deliver in the clutch for the Cardinals. His walk-off heroics and emotional reaction have set the stage for an intense, winner-take-all showdown to determine who will advance to the NLCS.
