Terrible Replay Review + Other Unseen Playoff Footage
What Happened
In a tense playoff moment, Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers steps up to the plate with the game tied in the late innings. The count is 3-0, and Betts takes the next pitch, which the umpire rules a ball, tying the game. The Dodgers' dugout erupts in celebration, with players banging on the railings and high-fiving each other. Among the excited Dodgers is actor Jason Bateman, who claps enthusiastically and shouts "F*** yeah!" Legendary basketball player Magic Johnson, sitting in the stands, also reacts joyfully, clapping along with the rest of the crowd. However, one player who does not seem pleased is the opposing team's pitcher, who appears saddened by the turn of events. In another moment, Trent Grisham of the San Diego Padres is at the plate when the umpire makes a questionable call, ruling a pitch a ball despite Grisham appearing to have made contact with the catcher's glove. Grisham protests, and the play is reviewed, but the umpires ultimately uphold the original call, much to the dismay of Padres manager Bob Melvin, who stares in disbelief. The video also includes a behind-the-scenes look at some lighter moments, such as pitcher Jay Buenner pretending to pull a hamstring on his first pitch, much to the amusement of Mariners outfielder Julio Rodríguez. In another clip, Dodgers reliever Trevor Megill celebrates emphatically after recording a crucial strikeout, pumping his fist and shouting with excitement. Throughout the video, the unique perspectives provided by the umpire's point of view offer a unique glimpse into the game, including a play where the umpire keeps his mask on the entire time, providing a continuous shot of the action. The summary touches on the key moments, player reactions, and umpire perspectives, painting a vivid picture of the dramatic and lighthearted moments captured in the video.

>> Not outside. Gino.
Time. Time. Time. Right here. First
base.
No catch.
Let me see it.
Yeah, that's what
Oh.
Those
were my favorite of all of the miked up
moments I found on umpam during the
divisional series. Now, I've been on
paternity leave and my two other kids
have been sick, so I haven't been able
to get a lot done. I've been able to
edit things, but I haven't been able to
record the audio and get them out. So,
what I've done here is everything that
I've edited from the divisional series
that I didn't get to record, I'm
recording in one big session. These
would be like little shorts I would post
on social media. They wouldn't be a
breakdown, but a collection of them.
Maybe that's worthwhile. Here we go.
Let's stay with Cam. This video is
brought to you by DraftKings because
these are strike three looking and I
want you guys to let me know, do you
have this as a strike?
You have that one in there. I think I
have that in there. I think that one's a
strike. Yeah. Okay, let's move on.
>> I lied. This one is not a strike three
looking. It's a called ball. What do you
guys think? I mean, and that is in
slow-mo. Look how cool it is. You can
see the laces and the tumble of the
pitch.
>> Got it inside.
Show did not like that one. He thought
it was low.
Looks right there to me. I don't know.
>> Maybe the umpires are good.
I don't like this angle this ump is
taking.
He's so inside.
Hey,
>> almost punches Trent right in the face.
>> Look at him. Look at the umpire. Really,
dog? Chill out.
>> All right, let's keep it moving. I found
this one of Alejandro Kirk. He's all
confused.
It's strike three.
He wants to throw it around, but first
he needs to wait for the umpire to say
if he caught it. Does he need to tag
him? Did it hit the dirt? And then he
tries to throw it to first base, but
Vlatty was pointing saying, "Throw it to
third. Throw it to third." He was a
lefty batter. The umpire throws his ball
to the mound, and now Kirk's like, "Not
you, not third." And there's already a
ball out there. So, um, all right. [ __ ]
Splintered wood to the eye. And this is
just a site you hadn't seen. This is a
weird POV angle from UMP cam. They don't
actually show him checking on the
catcher. You got something in your eye?
Let me see.
That's such a close weird view. You just
don't you just don't see that view a
lot. When they show you cam, it's
usually not that shot. But that made me
think would be cool if there was umpires
out there who always left their mask on.
This is one continuous shot. This umpire
does not take his mask off. So, we get
to watch this whole play through his POV
and it's a double play to second to
short and the umpire runs up the line to
help out. Looks at catcher now. He's
looking at the dugout. You see him put
his hand out to say, "Are you going to
challenge? You're on the clock. What do
you guys got?" And he's looking. He's
waiting. He's waiting. And then they
say,
"Nah,
time's up. We're not going to
challenge." And she's like, "All right,
umpires, if you're wearing the helmet
with the camera on it, keep your mask on
the whole time. This is way cooler."
Gives the new ball to the catcher and on
we go. I liked that. Jay Buunner
throwing out the first pitch, pulls the
old Oh no, my hamstring. Oh no. Oh no.
You know who loved that? JRod loved it.
I mean, he absolutely loved it. He's
giddy. What a jokester. What an absolute
jokester. Pulled his hamstring. Aha.
That was uh he loved that almost as much
as Trevor McIll liked getting this last
strike out of the inning.
Let's [ __ ] go.
Fired up. He's going to stay fired up
all the way. [ __ ] yeah, boys. We're
[ __ ] winning this [ __ ] What's up,
Blue? You want to check my hands? Okay,
I'm fired up. I want to get to my boys
and you're kind of a barrier. Uh but
good stuff. I I I like your work. He
kind of points at him looking as he
goes. Good stuff. Thumbs up to you.
Thank you very much. And he's in the
dugout. Okay, this next one is fun. Tons
of footage you haven't seen. Celebrities
galore, player reactions, all the good
stuff you love. Mookie Bets is up at the
plate. The tying run is on third.
There's three balls on the count. So,
ball four is a tie game. And that's what
happens. The crowd goes crazy. Ump cam.
Let's take a look. Okay,
replay it. Slow it down. What do you
guys think? You got that high. You got
that. I don't think anyone was arguing
it. At a boy show loves it. So does
Glass now. [ __ ] yeah.
[ __ ] yeah. Mookie.
Yeah.
Dugout loves it. They're celebrating.
They're having fun. They're banging
railings, having a good time. You know
who else really liked it? Jason Baitman.
High five. [ __ ] yeah.
[ __ ] yeah.
Woo
yeah. Oh yeah. Yes. [ __ ] yes.
And magic. He's got to love it. Oh yeah.
Look how much bigger he is than everyone
else. Clap clap clap clap clap.
Everyone's clap. Oh no. He's not. He's
sad. He's not clapping at all. Little
kiss. Little magic and cookie kiss. Hey,
let's move on to a short I made where
MLB just botches a replay. Everyone was
surprised. Trent Gisham's at the plate.
This put it in my bucket of gripes with
how they do replay in the MLB. Strike
one. Wish you swung Trent. Next pitch
doesn't swing. Little scuffed ball. Do
we need No, I don't need a new one.
Okay, one in one count. Got another
breaking ball. He fouls that back and
then away. And here's the pitch we're
talking about. Calls it a ball. Trent
thinks about Wait, hold on. No. No. I
hit something. Hey. Hey guys, can you
check? Yeah, he he hit me. Yes, on the
swing. No, him. That guy, the catcher,
hit me on the swing. Okay, we're check.
>> Previous play is under review as the
Yankees have challenged.
>> Let's see. Did his bat hit the glove?
Uh, okay. How about this angle? And
bo. Yeah, looks like it did. Looks like
it bounced off the glove. Now, I know
what you're thinking. He caught the ball
and he didn't even really swing. Well,
the rule is if the bat hits the glove,
it's catcher interference. Otherwise,
catchers would just be fearless. They
put padding on their back, they dive
forward, catch the ball before they even
swings. Maybe not, but you get you get
why rules are rules. And that clearly
looks to me like he doked it right on
there. So everyone's like, "All right,
well, this one's going to get
overturned. This is fun." He says, "As
he was catching it." Yeah, he got him
after. Okay,
>> review the field stands. It was not
catch interference. The batter will
remain at bat and Whoa. What the [ __ ]
are we doing? Boon can't believe. Are
you pranking me? The [ __ ] are we doing?
You [ __ ] missed it. He's mad. He's
staring daggers like what? Everyone,
what is going on?
Down the line. That is a fair ball.
Gri's headed for second. He says, "Don't
worry, Skip. We'll take a double
instead." Well, Skip is still worried.
[ __ ] horseshit.
Still worried about it cuz like you know
we we're supposed to trust you. You're
the umpires. Here's what a runner on
base signaling the pitch to the batter
looks like from umpam. We have Ben Rice.
gets a curveball and just rockets it for
a home run. Now you missed where Belly
told him the pitch was coming, but as he
scores a good call, dog. Yeah,
appreciate you helping me out there.
Now, let's take a look. I'll show you
again. You got Bellinger on first base
and top right and he's just going to
spread his arms out like a flying bird,
like angels in the outfield. And that
was the signal. It's a breaking ball.
Look at this. The arms go out, that
means breaking ball. It's very, very
quick. Basically, he saw the grip when
the pitcher took the ball out of his
glove and said, "It's a curveball." And
then went. Beo actually put sleeves on
later on in this game. Started the game
no sleeves. This happened. I think he
came back with sleeves on. And in live
time, it is quick. Watch this. Uh, boom.
Boom.
Homer. Something you hear about all the
time, playoff baseball, the shadows. Day
games, those dreaded four:00 starts. The
shadows impossible to hit. Bet the
under. It's the shadows. Well, here's
what it looks like. Here's Schwarber's
first at bat in the first inning. No
shadows. Beautiful. Gets a single. Could
see it the whole way. Now, in his next
at bat, you can see the shadows creeping
in. They're not past him yet, so I don't
think they affect him, but you can see
they're creeping as the game and the sun
moves along. high fast ball swings
through it. Now, as in third at bat,
that's crazy. The shadows have moved
beyond the pitcher to the dirt. The
cameras haven't adjusted yet. So, it's,
you know, your eyes are better than
cameras at adjusting to things, but you
can still see how different it is. And
when the pitcher is in the light and
you're in the dark and that ball is
changing, that's tough. So, you went
from this to this to this. Tough times.
Not fun. Also not fun getting cramps.
Glass now's on the bump. He's known,
he's come out of games in the past
because he cramps places and he takes
his hand out of his glove and then all
of a sudden it sees ah seizes. Ah,
[ __ ]
Yeah, I'm good. Yeah, I'm good. Damn,
that was nasty. His whole hand when he
was with the Rays, I remember him he had
to come out of a game cuz his
non-throwing hand cramped up on him.
Right back on the mound. gets Bryce
Harper to ground out. Runs to first to
cover. Doesn't need to. Then he gave up
a single, but then ends the inning on
this fast ball. Boom. Got him. Walks off
the mound. Totally fine. How many people
even know what he went through? Doc
doesn't gives him a big hug. He's like,
"You're done." Hey, you're done. Don't
even worry. You're done. Hey, you're
done. You like that? He took his glasses
off. He's like, "You're done. I'm gonna
take my glasses off so you know that I'm
serious. You're done. You're done.
That's awesome. That was everything we
needed. Then he's going to hype him up.
He's like, "Yeah, yeah." And then he
says, "Go get your high fives." And now
he's got his cramping hand out,
high-fiving everyone, getting his love.
And do they even know what he went
through? I didn't until I saw that
replay. Time for everybody's favorite
baseball game. Guess that mouth.
Do you have it? Do you have it? Guess
the mouth. I think some people can get
it. Pause it. Comment. Leave your
comment. Who is it? Guess that mouth.
You got to have it by now at this point.
Bam. Craig Council. It was his mouth.
Little rewind to some hit by pitch. Did
it? Did it not controversy.
Time right here. First base.
Time. Right here. First base. In live
time, it looked like, wait, that hit
him? But umpires are are taught to
listen. Are there two sounds happening,
not just one sound? Because they're not
really going to pick that up if they're
following the ball, maybe. But look,
here's the sound waves. There are two
little notches. The first one is so
tiny, but there are two sound waves, so
it must hit the padding of his hand, and
it did get him. Rodan doesn't care if it
hit him or he didn't hit him. He just
thinks he's throwing his hands into the
zone. He says, "Hey, he keeps putting
his hands out there, Jordan." Yeah, he
keeps putting his hands out there.
He did that all year this season. He's
going like that and putting his [ __ ]
hands out there. So, I went and found
other times Carlos Ferdon threw that
same exact pitch in those coordinates uh
to a lefty at Yankee Stadium, so the
footage matches up and our eyes like it
better. I found two recently and one he
got a swinging foul ball strike and then
another one to Durant. He gets a
swinging strike. So that pitch has been
a strike for him and this time makes his
pitch but it's a hit by pitch. So that's
why he doesn't like it. If you're going
to a Yankees game next year, just be
careful. Vulpi throws his bat a decent
amount. You know, tight hands or slow
hands, so he's got a loose grip, maybe
too loose. Chucks his bat a good amount.
The fans are panicked. They forget the
nets there. It's normal to forget.
They're just like, "Oh, oh, whoa, whoa.
What? Blue Jays. What are you doing?
Huh? Trying to hit me? Come on." Vuli's
like, "No, I just I don't know, man."
He's kind of like the kid from Little
Giants. He's just looking at his hands
like, "Hey, don't fail me now. What's
your problem?" And also, where was that
pitch? How come I swung and missed at
it? So, he throws the bat and he's like
confused. Oh [ __ ] I was supposed to
hold on to that. looks at his hands for
a second, looks like, and where was that
pitch anyway? Oh [ __ ] This is what
being a bullpen catcher is all about.
Brewers bullpen catcher gets up from his
position, makes the grab, celebrates it,
fist pump, two hands up, all by himself
back. Yeah. Yeah. Bang.
Yep. And then the mask goes right back
on. He gets into his squat. He warms up
his pitcher because that's his job. If
that clip doesn't sum up what a bullpen
catcher is, then you've never known. The
Mariners bullpen catcher also had a
chance to make a great catch. He didn't
have his glove on though. He tried to go
with his hat and just misjudged it. And
Vargas is like, "What are you doing
giving him [ __ ] but Vargas ran away. It
was going to hit him and Vargas ran away
and he just missed." He's trying to
blame the hat and say like, you know,
"What did it hit? Where was it?" He's
looking at it. Whoa, I got I was right
under that. It hit and went through. Is
there a hole in my hat? I thought I had
it. And it's like, "No, man. You didn't
have it. You weren't underneath it."
Vargas did run away, but Vargas comes
back and he's like, "I don't want to
hear it, man. I don't care. Nah. Nah.
Don't give a shit." You know who does
want to hear some love? Bazardo in the
background catches it in his hat off
like three bounces and he holding it up
like that means something. That's not
the rules. He gives it to that guy,
which is nice. But then he's like,
"Guys, quit talking. I caught it. I'm
the one that caught it. It doesn't
count. It doesn't count. It was
rolling." Jameson Tyion had a chance to
catch a home run in his hat in the
bullpen. He positions himself perfectly.
He gets underneath it. He's in place and
just not strong enough on the grip. It
goes in his hat and just rips it right
out of his hands. Boom. But he was
there. They're fired up. Now we have a
tragic next couple seconds of this
video. The Cubs bullpen puts on the
worst display of celebrating and high
fives you've seen. It looks like a bunch
of toddlers who just got taught that
high-fiving is a thing. Look at this.
Now he's a lefty. That's just a straight
miss. Then he connects and then they're
all too close to be high-fiving. It was
another miss there by by There's another
miss there by JMO who I love. And he
just gives up. He's like, "All right,
I'll just celebrate with my arms up."
They're like, "No, we want high- fives.
We weren't around." Okay, two good hits
there. Still nothing to write home
about. Celebrates those. Boom. Solid.
Wow. Tough going. Let's go watch the
replay, they say. Watch this replay.
This fan in Seattle, he's going to show
them how it's done. We've got a foul
ball straight back soaring through the
air into the crowd. He gets his hat
front and center. Lands it and sticks
it. Holds it up. Crowd's like, "Oh my
god, I did it." Not only did he catch
the ball in his hat, he's going to drill
all the high fives. He's just going to
nail them. And did you see how he caught
it? Kind I was interested in how he's
holding this hat because
I think he took it off like this,
which is not If you're at home, do that.
You know, I think if I was to catch a
hat, how would I catch a hat?
How would I How would you take All
right, if you're in the crowd, film
yourself. Tweet it at me. How would you
take your hat off to catch a ball?
I think I'd be too slow. Oh, I'd be
maneuvering a lot.
This guy just goes
like that. I've never taken my hat off
like that. You know, you take your hat
off to to like do this to people. So, I
think I I think that's what I'd end up
doing this. But he comes at it like
that. Almost like he's blocking the sun
out of his face and then bam, the ball
catches him. Well, anyway, he's a hero.
POV, you are a base. People are stepping
on you. They're sliding into you. Best
of base camp.
It's pretty fun. A little spinama
action. Naylor on the move. Swinging bun
up the line. Grabs it. They collide.
Bam. Naylor stays on his feet. Carpenter
goes down. And Carpenter gets up, looks
at him like, "Damn, man. I went down.
You stayed on your feet. What's going
on?" And I'll show him the replay. What
happens is Carpenter kind of just gives
himself to the guy.
Like, you know, tuck his shoulder a
little bit.
You're If you do that,
you're gonna be the one that goes down
and Naylor's going to stay on his feet.
Damn, what did I do wrong? It was this
move. Whenever you're about to run into
someone and you do this move, you're
gonna be the one that gets got. And
that's just a lesson learned. That's all
that is. There's nothing to harp on. And
lastly, I put together a collection of
some of the best fan shots of the seat.
And lastly, here's a collection of
Mariners fans going through the motions
trying to clinch and get to the
championship series.
Hearts on the line.
Just praying, staring. Can't watch
praying. Tranquil rally shoe. Oh no.
Head in hands. No. Can't watch. Praying.
Clapping. Because we're we're building
an environment. Hiding.
Okay. Peeking. Should I watch now?
Should I? Okay. Uh, praying. Going to
pray a little bit. Covering the mouth
just in case. Don't let the mouth see.
Might throw up. Oh. Oh. Oh. Come on.
Come on. Come on. Come. Come on. Come
on. Come on. [ __ ] Damn. It's not good.
Oh, it's not good. Okay,
here we go. Full count.
Face and hands. Got him. Now we're
dancing. Oh, now we're running. We're
spinning. We're two high-fiving. Oh
yeah. Woo.
Let's go.
And look at this guy. Look at this guy
in blue down here going through the
motions. Oh,
someone give me a hug, please. Where's
my buddy? Oh. Oh, man. I think if he
would have I think if he would have held
on to that hug, then it would have been
Waterworks. If he would have held on, if
this hug turns into just a tighter
squeeze
would have been would have been
waterworks, but he's hanging in there.
Oh my god. All right, one more. One
more. Wow. Have to absolutely love it.
So, there you go. There's a recap of
unseen footage from the divisional
series that I thought was fun to share
with you. We'll chop them up, put them
into a bunch of shorts. I'll try to do
this with the championship serieses as
well. There's some breakdowns coming
out. They're on delay because like I
told you, I just haven't been able to
get to the microphone for a while. But
thank you very much. All of this was
brought to you by our good friends at
DraftKings.
