Manager ejected when ump makes bad call in big spot, a breakdown
What Happened
The scene unfolds in the bottom of the sixth inning, with the game hanging in the balance. The Los Angeles Angels are trailing by two runs, and the bases are loaded with no outs - a critical at-bat that could swing the momentum of the game. New York Yankees manager Phil Nevin steps up to the plate, ready to take on the challenge. The first pitch from the Angels' pitcher is a fastball, low and off the plate. The count quickly moves to 2-0, as the next offering is also a breaking ball below the zone. Nevin, recognizing the importance of this moment, watches intently as the next pitch comes in - a fastball right down the middle for a called strike. The manager, sensing the umpire may have missed a crucial call, leans in as the next pitch, another breaking ball, fails to entice the batter to swing. Nevin, visibly frustrated, believes the umpire has made an erroneous decision, and his displeasure boils over. He erupts from the dugout, storming the field to confront the umpire, arguing vehemently that the previous pitch should have been called a ball. The umpire, unmoved by Nevin's impassioned pleas, stands his ground, and the situation quickly escalates. Nevin, his face flushed with anger, begins hurling expletives at the umpire, leaving the official no choice but to eject the manager from the game. As Nevin storms off the field, he angrily tosses his chewing gum towards the umpire, further demonstrating his outrage over the controversial call. The tension-filled moment continues as Mike Trout, the Angels' superstar, steps up to the plate with the bases still loaded and two outs. The Yankees' pitcher battles Trout, who ultimately pops up to end the inning, preserving the two-run lead. However, the damage has been done, with Nevin's ejection and the questionable call by the umpire leaving a lasting impact on the game's outcome. As the players and coaches retreat to their respective dugouts, the crowd erupts in a mix of cheers and boos, reflecting the intensity of the moment and the high stakes at play. The summary captures the drama, emotion, and critical decision-making that unfolded during this pivotal juncture of the game, leaving the reader with a vivid understanding of the sports moment's significance.

Click timestamps to jump to that momentBases Loaded two-run game a big at bat
in the sixth inning this breakdown is
brought to you by DraftKings and the
first pitch is a fastball low off of
that he goes breaking ball also low 2-0
is the count fastball breaking ball
fastball in the zone that time for
strike one breaking ball off of it he
doesn't get the batter to swing he
should have he should have look at these
two pitches together this is what he's
doing tunnel tunnel tunnel the same
different they're the same for the same
the same the same the same different
that's pretty cool the next pitch
fastball swung on attacked Grand Slam no
foul ball wouldn't have gone out anyway
it wasn't far enough but fastball
breaking ball fastball breaking ball
fastball he attacked it he was sitting
on it does this mean breaking ball it is
a three and two count now and you don't
want to walk in a run so you'd probably
go fastball what's he gonna go with
fastball low not low says blue strikes
he says that's down man that's down now
I don't know what he says here I looked
at it for a while and my brain wants me
to think that he says something like uh
I'll show you let me stand up for you
next time something like that I think
the problem is how much he squats as the
pitch is coming through because if the
Umpire is using that back knee as a
gauge which he's not supposed to it is
kind of level with that back knee
I don't know I don't know if there's any
Credence to that at all but it's a
thought I had so I shared it with you
guys the manager Phil Nevin doesn't like
that it's too big of a spot so he starts
barking he gets ejected now he's got to
run out and really tell him how he feels
he's like God damn it that was bad you
see that gum throw green gum throws it
[ __ ] damn it that Ball's [ __ ] damn
low that's the [ __ ] ball I'm just
like nah nah nah not not what I saw nah
Nevin's like all [ __ ] day not [ __ ]
one time that is [ __ ] terrible you
can't miss a [ __ ] in that [ __ ] spot
God damn it
um wipes his face because he got spit on
it's a [ __ ] ball
you got a little spit on his face
collateral damage from the up close
yelling from Nevin who says it's too big
of a spot for you to miss a pitch when
it's that bad should have been uh RBI
walk and then trout comes up
with three on and we still don't have an
out instead of trout coming up with two
outs
it's much different
[ __ ] terrible
not happy about it God damn it
so Nevin gets wrong and and once again
he's kind of got a point because
the Angels threw pitches
in very similar spot
and and both of theirs got called
a ball and you can see the Batters maybe
my right knee Theory holds some Credence
here because his knees lower the other
batters are just as tall uh and it's the
same basic
spot now they're coming from a lefty
instead of a righty but they're all in
that same area
and he called two of those a ball and
one of them a strike and it was in a
really big moment when he went opposite
of what he was doing and then trout
comes up and instead of it being a 4-3
game one out Bases Loaded it's a 4-2
game two outs Bases Loaded he gets
jammed pops up the inning ends
and Nevin not happy and this breakdown
was brought to you by DraftKings I
