In this sports moment, the host of a popular baseball podcast and video series, celebrates a significant milestone for his YouTube channel. whose real name is James O'Brien, expresses his surprise and gratitude at reaching 50,000 subscribers, noting that it was just a week ago when he celebrated reaching 10,000 subscribers. provides some background, explaining that he started his "Yankee stuff" as a side gig in 2017 while working a full-time job. However, he eventually took the leap and quit his job to dedicate himself to his Yankees podcast, "Talking Yanks," and other baseball-related content. This year, decided to expand his coverage to include broader MLB content, leading him to start creating breakdowns of various baseball moments and posting them on Twitter and YouTube. acknowledges that he cannot monetize these videos directly due to concerns about MLB's policies, but he has decided to create a Patreon community to support his work. He also mentions plans to launch a new "Talking MLB" podcast and YouTube show after the All-Star break, with the live shows being available exclusively to Patreon members. concludes by expressing his excitement about the continued growth of his channel and the engagement of his audience. He acknowledges that he is not a "terrible salesman," and he provides a simple pitch for the Patreon, noting that the $2 monthly contribution would amount to just three cents per video in the previous month. Click timestamps to jump to that momentwhatup guys thank you we broke 50,000
subscribers I feel like a week ago I was
making my just broke 10,000 subscribers
thank you video and here we are at 50
which is unexpected and wild and I don't
even really understand it my little
brother who's interning for me this
summer keeps telling me all these stats
about how good the channels doing and
how it's impressive because he knows the
YouTube world
I don't really know the YouTube world
that well but it's been fun I'm glad you
guys are enjoying the videos they're fun
to make they're exciting I did this at
10,000 but I mean there's a lot more
people so a little back story 2017 I was
working a full-time job I started doing
Yankee stuff as a side gig it was going
kind of well but that was going well so
we took a leap of faith I quit my job a
dedicated just doing a Yankees podcast
and then other ancillary podcasts and
just covering the Yankees as a fan
making gifts on Twitter making breakdown
videos this year the Yankees podcast
been growing really well it's called
talking Yanks it's going really well
but I said I wanted to do more I felt
like last year I didn't do nearly enough
so I decided I'd just start doing
broader MLB coverage and so I started
making these breakdowns for Twitter I
posted them on YouTube just to have a
place to embed them on the website and
then YouTube I don't know the algorithm
or however you guys found the videos so
I'll try to keep this as short and
concise as I do the breakdowns thank you
guys very much
I can't monetize the videos because if I
monetize the videos MLB is gonna come
after me they're gonna be like we got to
take this down I'm gonna have to fight
it then we're gonna have to have this
they're gonna we'll look at it and then
three days go by and they're like okay
it's up but now it's been three days
since Corey got ejected and no one gives
a [ __ ] anymore and then they take half
the money which that part's fine it's
their video and their product so they
can take a cut but anyway I don't want
to do that hassle and I don't really
like YouTube's games so they're not
monetized my brother who I just
mentioned showed me he the how much I
could be making if there
monetizable and it was very dissing
heartening and sad so we we started a
patreon I kinda super hesitant to do
this but we did it with talking Yanks
and the response was actually incredible
because as much as people want you to
think people in the world suck
they don't people are nice and I'm sure
some of you were nice as well so two
dollars a month patreon John Boy media
two dollars a month to support what
we're doing so I can keep doing it
basically I'm on call every night much
to my girlfriend's dismay you know Korra
gets ejected the tweets come the
suggestions come and I say okay I gotta
go make a video real quick see ya and
it's been a blast I love doing it
absolutely I'm doing it so two dollars a
month we're still working out all the
perks I think I'd like that to become
the community where like I'll talk and
chat about baseball and stuff because
YouTube comments kind of are the worst
place to have a conversation ever and
they're flooding in now which is
fantastic don't get me wrong but it's
hard to like keep up and find them and
you have to weed through a bunch of just
people that don't want to have
conversations I just want to leave a
comment run away and that's annoying
so the patreon I think it's be more a
better place to like start a community
where we can talk I probably take
requests straight from patreon think I'm
gonna make another tier just in case
people have like a video like hey I want
you to do this video even if I don't
think it's gonna be good or it's like
[ __ ] your high school baseball team
and you just want to make a joke video I
think I'm gonna do that I don't know if
that's set up yet we also partnered with
affordable jerseys dot-com and we will
be giving two jerseys away baseball
jerseys any team you want any player you
want - we'll be giving two away every
month to our patreon so I'll just pick
out of a hat - patreon every month those
people will get a jersey from a
affordable Jersey Cop so that's a perk
we are planning on doing a talking MLB
podcast slash YouTube show after the
all-star break n so we can dive into
that we don't know the format yet once a
week twice a week we don't know how
that's going to go but I think maybe the
live shows will be available to patreon
and then
once it's finished up anyone else can
watch it but if you wanted to join live
and chat with us as we recorded ask
questions and [ __ ] like that
I think that's gonna be patreon only I
don't know listen if you don't want to
do the patreon but you love the
breakdowns just keep watching the
breakdown so no skin off my back that's
awesome
if you want to support and I'm sure
there's a lot of people that want to
you're honestly awesome I did some math
here if I was a Salesman I'm not a
terrible sales that was a Salesman this
is what my pitch would be in the month
of May I made 53 breakdowns at $2 a
month that comes to three cents of video
so every time if you watched every
breakdown in the month of May you would
give me three pennies for every video
that's $2 a month one cup of coffee a
month maybe so there's my sales pitch
but again just watch the videos and
enjoy them and thank you and that's
that's the best thing but yeah if you
want to do our support we got that and I
think that about ends it I'm waiting to
see the tipping point to be honest
because like we're growing like crazy
it's it's kind of bizarre to watch so
we'll see how far we can take this you
guys have been great
and growing it and engaging and enjoying
I guess so cool that ends this I hope
this wasn't too long for you guys and
also we're gonna be I have so many
podcasts on jumbo media we're gonna be
making separate YouTube's for some of
them some of them will stay on this and
I know some of you guys hate that you
like just break down just break downs
what we do other stuff too and if you
want to tune into the other stuff and
hang out awesome if not just kindly
avoid it no harm no harm just avoid it
watch it break down so those are fun
those are quick but we do to some
podcast stuff too so don't be rude about
it no need for rudeness anyway go Yanks
or whatever team you like sans Red Sox
don't go the Red Sox see ya
