Tulane Pitcher Accused of Using Pine Tar, a breakdown
What Happened
In a crucial matchup between Tulane University and Mississippi State University, Tulane pitcher Braden Ultoff is accused of using a foreign substance, potentially pine tar, on his glove to gain an unfair advantage. As Mississippi State trails by two runs late in the game, their head coach decides to have the umpires inspect Ultoff's glove, suspecting foul play. Ultoff has been dominant on the mound, baffling Mississippi State hitters with his movement and location. The coach believes Ultoff has been applying a sticky substance to his glove, allowing him to generate extra movement on his pitches. When the umpires approach the mound, Ultoff confidently hands over his glove and the baseball, daring them to find any evidence of tampering. The umpire performs a cursory inspection, briefly touching the back of the glove and lightly examining the ball before declaring that he sees no issues. This ruling infuriates the Mississippi State dugout, who believe the umpire did not thoroughly investigate the specific areas they had indicated. Tulane's dugout, on the other hand, erupts in celebration, praising Ultoff's dominant performance and his defiant response to the accusation. Ultoff later comments, "That being checked has never happened to me. I've never been one to use any pine tar or any other substance. The umpire said we gotta check your glove and I loved it. It fired me up even more and it fired up our dugout. I took it as a compliment that they thought I was cheating." Despite the controversy, Ultoff maintains his focus and gets the final out of the eighth inning, preserving Tulane's lead. His overpowering stuff and unfazed attitude have clearly rattled the Mississippi State players and coaches, who feel they were denied a fair opportunity to disrupt Ultoff's rhythm. As the game reaches its climax, the crowd is intensely engaged, with both teams passionately defending their sides of the debate surrounding Ultoff's alleged use of a foreign substance. The outcome of this pivotal matchup hangs in the balance, with the stakes heightened by the unfolding drama on the mound.

dudes up
for the first five innings swinging miss
stuff then they started to try and take
stuff and he just threw strikes
i think he retired 12 in a row after
giving up a run in the first
inning and finally in the fifth inning
he gets two runners on and two outs and
mississippi state like
hey here's our chance to get him out of
the game and maybe score some runs
the second reason the second reason
they're sending themselves because he
was doing this all game and maybe you
know maybe this is just to get in their
head a little bit
maybe there's no sticky stuff on the
glove at all he just wants to [ __ ] with
them
like you know being completely sober and
driving through the dui checkpoint on
purpose being like
sup officers you know you're good so
you're just gonna [ __ ] with them
that seems sketchy though but everyone
does it i mean in mlb no one's gonna do
this because no one cares i don't know
how it is in college i don't know how
rampant it is or not rampant or
the level of caring but mississippi
state sends the umpires out
says hey check his glove he's got
something on there he says okay you want
them to check my glove here you go
here's the ball here's the glove now
this umpire kind of just goes with the
ocular pat down
he doesn't like touch or look at
the one spot mississippi state
wants him to touch or look at he just
looks at the back of the glove
and then barely touches the ball and
then says
yeah okay i don't see anything do you
see anything okay you're good
thanks guys good job gives him a big old
thumbs up
and then goes immediately back to the
spot and touches it up a little bit

maybe he's got a point maybe he doesn't
we had our chance i'm kind of blew it
he's got
one batter left of the eighth inning he
goes to the glove again maybe it's just
superstition
goes to the glove a second time and then
he's gonna get the last out of the
eighth inning
just a dominant dominant performance
from braden
ultoff who may or may not have sticky
substance on his glove the umpires
did a check kind of and found that he
didn't
either way no one cares about this but
he said
that that being checked has never
happened to me
i've never been one to use any pine tar
or any other substance
the umpire said we gotta check your
glove i loved it that fired me up even
more and it fired up our dugout i took
it as a compliment
