What Happened

In a heated matchup between the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies, tensions boil over as Todd Frazier of the Mets and manager Mickey Callaway get into a heated argument with the umpire. In the bottom of the ninth inning, with the Mets trailing by one run, Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is hit by a pitch from Phillies pitcher Jake Arrieta. This prompts Frazier to voice his displeasure, as it marks the fourth time a Mets batter has been hit in the game. When Frazier is then hit by a changeup from Arrieta, he decides he's had enough. "Come on, dog. What's up, man? That's four times," Frazier says, clearly frustrated by the Phillies' pitching. The umpire warns both teams, which further infuriates Frazier. "Why would the Mets get warned? That means we can't retaliate if we wanted to," he argues. Callaway tries to calm Frazier down, but the umpire has seen enough, ejecting Frazier from the game. "Why would you throw him out? Classic nice guy MLB," Callaway laments, tossing his helmet in disgust. Two batters later, Phillies pitcher Arrieta hits Mets shortstop Amed Rosario with another off-speed pitch and Callaway erupts. "You better toss him out! You got it, you better toss him out, my guy got thrown out over this whole debacle," Callaway shouts at the umpire. The umpire tries to explain that the pitch wasn't intentional, but Callaway is having none of it. "You f***ed this whole thing up," he yells, before ultimately being ejected as well. Despite the heated altercation, the Mets rally in the ninth inning, with backup catcher Tomás Nido driving in the tying and go-ahead runs to give the Mets the victory. As the teams head to the dugout, Callaway and Frazier can be seen commiserating, their frustrations with the umpiring boiling over in a contentious but ultimately fruitful night for the Mets.
