Blake Snell and Manny Machado argue new rules, a breakdown
What Happened
In a highly anticipated matchup between the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers, pitchers Blake Snell of the Padres and Brusdar Graterol of the Dodgers engage in a heated exchange over the new pitch clock rules. The sequence begins with Snell using the "pitch com" device attached to his hip, which communicates the pitch selection to catcher Gary Sánchez. As Snell sets to deliver the pitch, Sánchez indicates that he didn't hear the call and asks Snell to repeat it. This triggers a brief argument, as Snell contends that if the first baseman can see the device, there is no deception involved. The umpire intervenes, clarifying that Snell must follow the proper protocol. Moments later, Padres star Manny Machado steps up to the plate against Graterol. Machado takes a few practice swings and calls time, using one of his allotted timeouts per at-bat under the new rules. However, as Machado steps back in, Graterol quickly begins his delivery, catching Machado off guard. "Hey, hey, hey, come on now, not ready," Machado protests. The umpire rules that Graterol's action was legal, as Machado had already used his timeout. Visibly frustrated, Machado continues to argue his case, saying, "We just did the same thing. You gave me time on the pitch before, and then I have to wait till I'm ready." Padres coach Bobby Dickerson intervenes, attempting to calm Machado down, but Machado tosses his helmet in anger. Catcher Gary Sánchez steps in, trying to diffuse the situation and get Machado back into the batter's box. Despite the heated exchange, Graterol ultimately prevails, striking out Machado with a well-timed pitch. The incident highlights the challenges players and umpires face in adapting to the new pitch clock rules, which aim to quicken the pace of play in Major League Baseball.

had two instances of
pitchcar Gary can't hear it says hey hit
it again so he breaks his hands and hits
the pitch comom again on his hip and the
umpire's like no no no no no no no
illegal illegal B and he's like what I
have to tell him which
pitch so what do you want me to
do if he's looking he's looking right at
it if he's looking at me what do you
want me to do I haven't gotten
it I didn't see you I didn't see you and
you brought your hands together I
haven't gotten it from him yet I'm
telling him the pitch and then he sends
back he's got it and he's like hey hey I
didn't get it yes I promise you that and
then the other coach here comes and says
something right there like hey you blew
it you're done and he gets ejected not a
big storyline because he's not the
manager or anything pitching coach I'm
guessing he gets ejected but yeah if you
look at this what happened is Snell's
got the device on his hip he hits the
buttons and it tells the catcher what
pitch he wants to throw now he's hitting
the buttons right here telling Gary
Sanchez what pitch he wants to throw and
Gary's got his glove to his
ear listening and then Snell gets into
kind of his set position and he breaks
his hands and Gary's like nah I didn't
hear that man do it again so Snell puts
his hands back together hits the button
now that's a b but Snell's point is if
the first baseman is watching me I'm not
deceiving him he knows what's going on I
got
pitchcombe pitch C situation like they
should fix it but I don't know how with
the pitch clock it feels like pitch
commom might not be necessary anymore
and I love watching the catchers give
the sign so I hate
pitchcombe says yes yes yes yes yes no
no no no no better not call that a
strike yes yes yes yes yes I agree with
you we're friends the 1 and bruar goes
back with the same high fast ball
actually a little lower this time and
Manny probably wants that one back
probably wants to hit that one third
pitch another high fast ball so three in
a row 99 miles per hour with some arms
Side Run and Manny's going to step out
and take some time to think about it and
the umpire's like hey hold up he he
called time fan says yep he called time
Manny's thinking about it
collecting himself he gets he gets one
timeout per at bat now in the new pitch
clock era and takes some practice swings
now he steps back in and when he looks
up to pitch Brew stars real quick into
his motion hey hey hey come on now not
ready little cutter strike three big old
bazooka fist pump from brewce Star
Manny's not happy hey hey hey hey hey
come on now come on he wasn't ready I
wasn't ready and he says he wasn't
looking bro no he wasn't he was coming
set I wasn't
ready bro what do you mean I have 20
seconds what are you talking about same
no no same thing come on bro we
just same thing we just about no resets
when you gave me time you gave me time
on the pitch before and then he's got to
wait till I'm ready
no he wasn't looking at him it was the
same thing okay we're good we're good
we're good okay we're good hey are they
fighting [ __ ] [ __ ] bro and I like
Gary trying to calm him down he throws
his helmet to the coach coach misses it
then he's undoing his glove and Gary's
like come on come on and you know what
man he's pretty much right here he steps
into the box and look when graterol
raises his hand and comes into kind of
his set position
he times it perfectly so it's he's
getting away with it it's actually Well
Done by bruar but I think by law he
can't really start that movement until
they've made eye contact and they have
not made eye contact his hands already
moving up and then Manny really that's
when Manny looks and he's already in his
kind of set position and windup and not
looking at him so I think Manny was
right here but he sure does say bruh a
