What Happened
In a tightly contested game three between the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves, the stage is set for Bryce Harper, the Phillies' star outfielder, to deliver a dramatic moment. With the game tied in the bottom of the third inning and runners on first and third, Harper steps up to the plate against Braves pitcher Spencer Strider. The first pitch is a sinker that Harper fouls off, resulting in a strike. Strider follows up with another sinker, this one just off the plate, making the count 1-1. On the next pitch, Strider throws a slider that Harper seems to like, commenting, "Ooh, throw that again." Darren O'Day, the Braves pitching coach, nods in agreement, and Strider obliges, delivering another hanging slider. Harper does not miss, crushing the ball deep into the second deck for a three-run home run. As Harper rounds the bases, he exchanges a celebratory high-five and hug with a teammate, but in the midst of the excitement, he knocks off his glasses. Undeterred, Harper continues his home run trot, staring intently at Braves infielder Orlando Arcia before touching first base. Arcia had reportedly been heard in the Braves' clubhouse after the previous game, saying, "Ha ha, attaboy Harper, attaboy," seemingly mocking the Phillies slugger. As Harper rounds second base, he looks directly at Arcia and says, "You gonna give me an attaboy or what, man? That was a nice homer." He then performs a throat-slashing gesture, signaling that the game is over. Harper greets the cheering crowd, exchanges low-fives with his teammates, and stares intently into the distance, still visibly upset about the previous game's events. In his next at-bat, Harper again connects, hitting a towering home run to center field. As he rounds the bases, he once again stares down Arcia, making sure to touch each base. Finally, as he crosses home plate, Harper repeats the throat-slashing gesture, letting the Braves know that he has the last word in this ongoing rivalry. The dramatic display showcases Harper's competitive spirit and his desire to settle the score with Arcia and the Braves. The exchange between the two players adds an extra layer of intensity to an already heated matchup between these NL East rivals.

Click timestamps to jump to that momentGame two of the Phillies-Braves series ended with one of the most dramatic, crazy double plays we've
ever seen when Harper got doubled up, rounded second a little too far, and two writers reported
that in the Braves clubhouse in the celebration, Arcea was saying, ha ha, attaboy Harper, attaboy.
So now game three in Philly, bottom third, two outs, tied game. Harper's up, runners on first
and third, first pitch sinker, fouls it away, strike one, Elders are going to throw another
sinker, this one more off the plate. 1-1, he throws a slider, looks like Bryce is like, ooh,
throw that again. Darno's like, yeah, let's throw that again. They throw it again, a little too high,
a little too hanging, and Harper crushes it for a three-run home run into the second deck. Great
high five there, big old hugs. Oh, he knocked his glasses off of his face. That dude now is trying
to find his glasses instead of celebrate. Oh my God, this guy can't believe it. This is a great
hug between those two. I hope they know each other.
Or not. And a big old swing and look at him just stare at it and say, yep, that's who I am. And
then throat slash, it's over. Let's go. Stares at Arcea before he'd been touching first base. I
don't know if anyone has really seen this one. Before he even touches first base, he's looking
his way and he says, oh, I'm coming, I'm getting there. And then stares at him as he rounds second
base, says, you going to give me an attaboy or what, man? That was a nice homer. Before he
lost his home plate, he's going to slash his throat again. It's over. Letting his team know
that he's a bad man, I guess. Says what up to the crowd, says hi to his teammates, a little double
pat, a little low five. Nice there. And he's mad, just staring into the distance. You know, he
doesn't like the way he ended game two. He wasn't giving himself an attaboy. Elder's thinking, oh,
the hanging slider probably wasn't the play. Let's fast forward to his next at-bat. These fans,
great organization.
They all actually come down at the same time, too. Attaboy, Arcia. His slash line. Fans are
ready. They're quick. All right. New pitcher in, Brad Hand, first pitch, sweeper. And Harper is
like, oh, my God, I should have crushed that. Damn. Sweeper, that one's way more outside.
The count goes one and one. Another sweeper, a hanger, and he hits it high and far. Dead center.
No, weird route. Went a little left of dead center. Home run either way. Oh, my goodness.
A double stare. A long stare. Look at that. Stares at him. Looks down. Make sure he touches
second base. Doesn't want to trip or, like, you know, do anything foolish. Stares at him again.
Are you going to give me an attaboy? I'd really appreciate one. Before he touches home plate,
oh, it's over. Arcia thinking, damn, I wish he didn't know that I was saying that.
No, he wasn't supposed to hear. That's why we're sober. That was where we were.
Uh, talking in the clubhouse. He was joking around, but it screws all the other reporters
and everybody who comes in here and has been great with us all year, and we feel like this
is a sanctuary where we come to work every day and try to have fun, and when things get out,
which I'm sure other teams say things as well, it's not a good feeling, and it makes nobody
want to be in the clubhouse. Was there any motivation? I mean, anytime anybody says
something, right? I mean, that's what it's all about. Did you enjoy staring him down?
Yeah, I mean, I stared right at him. Yeah, I mean, I stared right at him. That's what it's
all about. I mean, as petty as this might be, every clubhouse probably has guys saying stuff
like attaboy, even if they're good friends with the guy on the other team. It's just like, nice
job, dummy, but then it gets out and people report on it, whether that's good or bad. I don't know.
I just love the pettiness and the drama of it all, and we got shirts available, shop.johnboymedia.com.
Thank you guys very much for watching. Appreciate you. Let's have more of this. Let's have more
petty drama.
