Michael Chavis hits a Monster Shot that Everyone Thought Went Foul, a Breakdown
What Happened
In the bottom of the 9th inning, with the score close, Colorado Rockies pitcher Kyle Freeland faces off against Boston Red Sox first baseman Michael Chavis. Chavis steps up to the plate, ready to make a play that will electrify the crowd. Chavis swings with all his might and the crowd erupts as the ball rockets off his bat. The broadcast crews are stunned, as the ball appears to sail well foul of the left field pole. However, the umpires confer and rule it a home run, to the disbelief of Rockies manager Bud Black and everyone watching. Replays show the ball traveling an immense distance, far past the foul pole. Chavis himself is unsure, saying "I couldn't see the ball, I thought it was gone." The camera pans to the fans, who are all looking intently in the distance, suggesting the ball may have curved around the pole. The replay officials review the play, but ultimately cannot definitively determine whether the ball went fair or foul. Given the on-field call of a home run, they have no choice but to uphold it. Freeland's stunned reaction captures the shock of everyone in the stadium - how could such an obvious foul ball be ruled a home run? Yet the rules dictate that the umpires' original decision must stand. Michael Chavis has delivered an absolute monster shot, one that had everyone in the park questioning their own eyes. Despite the confusion, the Red Sox have taken the lead late in this tight game against their division rivals, the Rockies. The improbable home run will be the talk of the sports world, a moment of sheer disbelief that will be replayed for years to come.

homerun in this game it would have
cleared two green monsters and no one
could see it and much to everyone's
shock it was called a homerun both
broadcast crews were shocked it was
ruled a home run Bud Black was shocked
it was a little home rumors like I don't
know fellas let's go take a look at that
now I put a spotlight on this because
you can see it here but there's a
problem with this replay that makes it
look awfully foul but but look at okay
let's get it to its earliest place and
look at even here okay it's foul but
look at these heads down here you see
them they're looking in the distance
this is so far past the foul pole by the
time it's here so did it wrap around
it's kind of likely that it did slash no
one knows so you have to go with the
call on the field but that's a deceptive
thing because it's so far gone they go
to review it they're like okay well
group replay replay Center says we have
no idea we can't see it say look at it
look at it Chavis is trying to find it
he's like I don't see the ball I can't
see the ball and then he says that after
he hit it I couldn't see the ball I
thought it was gone I couldn't see the
ball so he has no idea but he knows he
absolutely crushed it the umpires come
back from it and they say yeah homerun
and those replayed this was Freeland his
reaction Oh
homerun how what everyone's shocked but
I don't know because if you look at
their heads they're clearly looking in
the distance so this tells you that this
ball isn't like right above the pole
this ball is way past the pole logic
would tell you it wrapped around or that
you have no idea cuz you just couldn't
see it so they just called it a homerun
whatever was called on the field was
gonna stay either way that was [ __ ]
