What Happened

In a close game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Colorado Rockies, the action heats up in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Rockies' third baseman boots a ground ball, putting Philadelphia's J.T. Realmuto on first base with no outs. Realmuto, the Phillies' All-Star catcher, steps up to the plate against Colorado pitcher Daniel Bard. Realmuto takes the first pitch for a strike, then watches as Bard throws a slider away. On the third pitch, Bard fires a fastball that appears to hit Realmuto, but the home plate umpire, Alex, does not immediately call him hit by pitch. Realmuto turns to the umpire and says, "Hey, Lou, that hit me." Alex replies, "Oh, it did? Okay, you can take first base." Rockies manager Bud Black, seeing the umpire's delayed reaction, comes out of the dugout to argue the call. Black believes the umpire missed the fact that Realmuto was hit by the pitch, and he wants the play reviewed. However, the Rockies have already used their challenge earlier in the game, so Black has no recourse. Black passionately pleads with Alex, saying, "I'm telling you, you missed it. Okay? I'm asking you to get those guys together and talk about it." Alex, flustered, responds, "I don't know, I thought I heard something, but I'm not sure." Black's frustration boils over, and he yells, "That's such a [expletive] bad call, Alex! You [expletive] this one up!" Ultimately, the umpire refuses to review the play, and the inning continues. The Phillies take advantage, scoring two runs on a wild pitch and a groundout. Realmuto's hit-by-pitch sparks a four-run inning for Philadelphia, and they go on to win the game. Bud Black's animated outburst highlights his belief that the umpire's missed call had a significant impact on the outcome of the game. Despite his pleas, the umpire stands firm, leaving the Rockies manager understandably frustrated with the officiating.

work and Reuben was like thanks blue I

appreciate you trusting me this was

cordial did it hit him this is the best

know if that's conclusive or not usually

going to say he's gonna say something

just grazed his hand and he said it got

him too bud black does a dramatic Larry

something that hit his hand you didn't

react until the batter said something to

you so my wish would be that so my wish

would be that you guys challenged that

call now for the sanctity of the game

I'm just like what do you mean how could

we he's like replay I mean replay I'm

just like oh no you don't have any

challenge right now because they already

used their challenge in the first inning

got it wrong so they don't have a

challenge and the arm's like yeah you

can't challenge it because you don't

have one and Bud's like I know that's

why I'm asking you

your challenge in the first I'm asking

if you can challenge that you missed it

I don't know I uh if I knew that I

missed it I would say that I missed it

and he's mad I think he's kind of got a

right to be mad I don't think that

umpire really uh

probably what's the harm in saying yeah

let me just make sure I got this right

I'll challenge it and he didn't and the

game continues and now its base is

loaded and you have an out okay so no

harm no foul maybe the um strike ball

don't lie but then the pitcher is going

to get a little bit distracted by

castianos who's dancing off third

distract him a bit there's no one

covering he box and the Umpire says

that's a ball come on home Nick you have

scored that's one run on the board then

Philly's gonna put another one on the

board when this 2-2 pitch gets tapped

down the Third Base Line third baseman

started this whole thing off with an

error that scores another run and

wouldn't you know it this was a big part

of the [ __ ] game and the Phillies

used it to score two runs and then

eventually two more and they win this

game and Bud Black I think has a lot of

right to be upset on this one and he's

also funny he's a funny manager when he

gets ejected it doesn't happen a lot but

he's always like a very concerned man

like what are you why what he's always

doing double takes he's probably the

best Double Take manager in all of MLB
