What Happened

Luke Jackson takes the mound for the Atlanta Braves in the bottom of the ninth inning, trying to preserve a slim lead against the Miami Marlins. With the game on the line, catcher Brian McCann sets up behind the plate, signaling his pitch selection to Jackson. The first batter, Josh Donaldson, hits a dribbler to the third baseman, who scoops it up and throws to first base, but the umpire mistakenly calls Donaldson out. The next Marlins hitter reaches base on a soft single, putting the tying run on. Jackson then induces a groundball, but the Braves are unable to turn the double play, leaving runners on first and second with one out. The batter unexpectedly lays down a bunt, which hops over the infielders and puts the go-ahead run on third base with still only one out. With the bases now loaded and the game on the line, Neil Walker steps up to the plate for the Marlins. Jackson rears back and fires a high fastball, but it misses the mark. The ball is put in play and Braves outfielder Cole Persons makes the catch, then uncorks a strong throw to the plate. Catcher Brian McCann applies the tag and the umpire rules the runner out, preserving the Braves' slim lead. "That's when you do the crow hop into the diving throw - guaranteed out every time," exclaims the analyst. "I call it the 'janitor throw' because it cleans up the shit that's trying to take an extra base." The Braves dugout erupts in celebration, while a Braves fan in the stands pumps his fist enthusiastically, his mustache bristling. "Unbelievable play, two outs, bases loaded, no runs scored," the analyst continues. "Tough for the Marlins, a lot of things go their way, but the Braves execute a perfect throw to the plate to cut down the runner and end the threat." Jackson then records the final out, stranding the bases loaded and preserving the Braves' narrow lead. The Braves faithful erupt in cheers, relieved to have escaped the jam unscathed.
