What Happened

In the 2022 MLB All-Star Game, New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman takes the mound in the bottom of the ninth inning to try and secure the save for the American League squad. Chapman, known for his blazing fastball that can reach triple digits, opens the inning by blowing a 97 mph heater past the first batter. He then ramps it up to 98 mph and blows another hard fastball by the hitter. Chapman's signature "plop" on his pitches is evident, indicating he's on his game tonight. He reaches back for even more velocity, unleashing a 100 mph fastball to strike out the first batter. Los Angeles Dodgers star Max Muncy steps in next, gearing up to try and hit Chapman's heat. But the hard-throwing left-hander mixes in a nasty slider, getting Muncy to chase one up in the zone for strike three. "Come on, dude," Muncy says in frustration after being fooled by the off-speed pitch. Next up is Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. who fouls off a 98 mph fastball down and in. Chapman then goes back to his slider, freezing Acuña with the sharp-breaking pitch to complete the strikeout and seal the save for the American League. The Yankees closer walks off the mound with a grin, having shut down the National League's best hitters. "He's right, I am fucked," Acuña admits, acknowledging Chapman's dominance on the mound. The American League holds on to win the All-Star Game and Chapman's perfect ninth inning performance is a major reason why. The flame-throwing lefty continues to cement his reputation as one of the most dominant relievers in baseball, blowing away the National League's top stars with his electric stuff in a high-stakes exhibition matchup.
