Did replay review get this call correct in Dodgers thrilling win over Tigers, a breakdown
What Happened
The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Detroit Tigers are locked in a close game in the top of the ninth inning, with the Dodgers holding a one-run lead. Mookie Betts of the Dodgers hit a home run in the eighth inning to give his team the advantage. The Tigers start the ninth with a single, and then Tanner Scott of the Dodgers comes in to pitch. There is a play at second base, where Tigers infielder Tommy Edmond makes a great scoop and throw to get the out. Edmond continues to impress, making another nice play to get the second out of the inning. With two outs and the tying run on second base, Tigers outfielder Manny Margot delivers an RBI single to knot the score at 3-3. Margot rounds third base and stumbles, but he is able to slide safely into home plate. The play is reviewed, and the call on the field of "safe" is upheld after a close look at the replay. The game goes to extra innings, with the Tigers taking a 5-3 lead in the top of the tenth. However, the Dodgers come roaring back in the bottom of the tenth. Mookie Betts steps to the plate with two runners on base and crushes a three-run, walk-off home run to give the Dodgers a thrilling 6-5 victory. The players and coaches are elated, with Betts celebrating at home plate as his teammates douse him with a water cooler. The dramatic win for the Dodgers over the Tigers showcases the excitement and unpredictability of Major League Baseball.

Click timestamps to jump to that momenthad our first fun replay decision of the
MLB season. The Dodgers are up one run
in the top of the ninth inning. Mookie
Betts hit a home run in the eighth to
give them the lead. This breakdown is
brought to you by MLB nine innings.
Tigers start the inning with a nice
single. Just a nice classic single.
Runner on first base, lefty to righty
way outside. Tanner Scott comes in. Muny
bobbles it. They get one at second. What
a scoop by Tommy Edmond over there. He
is all over this inning. A little bobble
by Muny and then the short hop foot on
the bag. Scoops it with the small
infield glove. Bam. Just
beautiful. Next batter up the middle,
Edmond again. That one gets past Mookie.
Gets Oh, you're out. Two outs. Yeah,
what of it? Mookie dives right past him.
Edmond's backing up. just in sync there.
You got to know with your infielder
who's going to go inside and who's going
to go outside so they don't collide.
That's beautiful. That's something they
probably work on in spring a ton. And
Edmond again with a great play. Now you
got two outs. Tying run on second base
and Manny Margo puts one into the
outfield. Just dips it in and that's
going to tie the game. The Tigers will
not go down that easily. They're going
to scrap and claw. That's all they know.
Next batter comes up. You got a fast
ball inside and then Tanner Scott's
going to play off that and go with the
breaking pitch. Look at the overlay
here. Looks like the same pitch for a
long time. And then one breaks in. So
now goes back to the fast ball. Says,
"Yeah, I was hoping you did. I was
hoping you did." Sends that one into the
corner. We're going to dig it out. We're
rounding third. We're relaying Tommy
Edmond again with the throw and awkward
slide. No, no, no, no, no. He's finger
wagging right away. No, no, no, no, no.
Is he hurt? He stumbled around the
bases. They say, "Okay, we're good." So,
Manny Marggo tying run. Watch me. Rounds
third and stumbles and doesn't lose and
looks and slows down and gets in there.
But he feels bad because he stumbled.
Real nice relay. Get it in. Tommy Edmond
hands all over this inning. And then
where's the out? On the foot. That's
what everyone was looking at right away.
Is it on the
foot? Is it Did Did he touch before the
foot? Looks like he might have touched
before he got tagged on the foot. That's
what everyone's looking at. The foot,
but that was like a magic trick. That's
an illusion because we're not actually
looking at the foot. Everybody's looking
at the replay trying to figure out what
are we looking. Look at the slide
direction there. Get outside. Kind of an
awkward slide. Does he touch home plate
before he touches his
foot? Maybe.
Maybe a lot of replays. Good coverage by
both broadcasts. Torqulson says safe.
Edmond's looking at the replay. He's
like, "What are we looking at?" They say
safe. Okay, we're happy. Barnes is
looking at thinking I thought I tagged
him. Wait, what did I get? Wait, is he
safe? What am I Tell me what to look at.
What does anyone know what we're
supposed to be looking at here? Yes,
you're supposed to be looking at the
glove tagging the butt. Watch this. Just
a little ripple on the pants as the
glove goes past. You see below the
pocket those little ripples from the
glove. Just little ripple there on the
pants from the glove. And here is that's
when the ripple happens. The hand is not
touching. And then this angle you can
see the ripple even more. You see that
black line on the pants get tugged as
the glove goes past that black line on
the pants tug just a little right there.
You just see it going getting tugged.
Ready? The line is nice and straight and
then the glove pulls on it in that spot
right
there. Yeah. So that's I guess what they
looked at.
The runner is out. Whoa. He's upset.
Oh, even Barnes is like, "What was I
supposed to look at?" Okay, cool. I'll
take it. The game still continues. The
Tigers have another chance cuz Kanley
blanked the Dodgers in the bottom of the
ninth. So top of the tenth now we've got
a runner on first and third. The runner
moved the third on an out and then they
intentionally walk him and now it's
first and third. They say, "Hey man,
just get this next guy out. That would
be huge inside fast. A little jam shot
and that cannot be caught." So that's
down. The Tigers take the lead. They
send both runners first to home. Why
not? He dove for it and that ate up
time. Two-run lead for the Tigers. They
ground out to end the inning. So,
redemption is theirs. They just got to
close this one out. And they can do it.
It's brisky against the Dodgers. Why
not? Look at that two pitch mix. That's
nice. That one's off the plate. 02 fast
ball fouled back. Fast ball again in the
same spot. And fast ball again dead
center. And that's probably Don't throw
that fast ball three times in a row is
what I'd say. So that scores one run and
now you got a runner on second. The
tying run on second. Big old swing there
in 02. Change up dead center of the zone
and that is going to tie the game five
to five. The
Dodgers just come at you and now you got
to deal with this guy Shoi. And what are
you going to do here? You going to throw
him a fast ball low? Yeah, dumb. That's
a single. I guess better than a home
run. You get past him. What's first to
third on Oh, come on. Yep. Don't don't
boom. Now Muki comes up. Reminder, he
hit the go ahead home run in the eighth
inning. Swings over that one. Fast ball
inside. One and one. Swings over that
one. Little slider there. Tries for it
again. Doesn't chase. 2-2. Up and in
with a change up. The 3-2 is a change
up. And Muki fouls it off. And he says,
"Okay, probably now we'll go. We'll go
to the fast ball. He says, "Yeah, give
me the fast ball now. Give me the fast
ball now. Give me that fast ball now."
Oh, 96 right there. Mookie fouls her
back. Back to the change up. Now we got
him off of the change up. Let's go back
to the change up. Mookie says, "You
going back to that change up? I can hear
you, man. Home run. Game over.
Dodgers. Three-run shot. Replay went our
way. Even if it didn't, we probably
would have won because we're the
Dodgers. Mookie's excited. Walk-off
winner. Three-run blast comes to home
plate. He's going to get a water bottle
over the head right here. That's nice.
That feels good on the bald head.
Celebrating. Watch this. He's going to
turn around and then right to the face
immediately just direct hit. Bam. That
was powerful. We got a alternate angle.
Oh, it's Teay Oscar from deep. Boom.
Kind of knocks Muki back. Let's I'm got
to watch it again. Watch this. Bam. from
deep. Full bucket with ice in it. Oh
yes. High five. High fives. Love it. So
that is it. Oh, she missed it. Oh no,
she missed it. Trying to post that Otani
single and you miss the Mookie homer. He
had his eye on the ball. He was ready
for it. Thank you again to MLB Nine
