What Happened

In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Tampa Bay Rays lead the Oakland Athletics 4-2 as Reymin Guduan takes the mound to try and close out the game. Guduan starts off shaky, walking the leadoff batter. The next A's hitter, Stephen Piscotty, grounds out to record the first out. With two outs remaining, Guduan struggles to find the strike zone, walking the next batter as well. Up steps Athletics third baseman Matt Chapman, with the game on the line. Guduan battles Chapman, working the count to 3-2. On the full-count pitch, Chapman crushes a three-run, walk-off home run over the right field wall, giving the A's a dramatic 5-4 victory. Chapman immediately tosses his helmet high in the air, celebrating the dramatic moment. As Chapman's teammates pour out of the dugout to mob him at home plate, the Rays' Evan Longoria has trouble fielding the game-ending hit, spiking the ball in frustration. The A's players douse Chapman with a Gatorade shower, adding to the joyous celebration on the field. In the stands, one fan makes a heartbreaking mistake, getting his glove in perfect position to catch the game-winning home run ball, only to have it bounce off his glove and into the hands of another fan. Oakland first baseman Matt Olson adds to the spectacle, dousing Chapman with a heavy jug of water as the walk-off hero is swarmed by his elated teammates. "Let's go!" Chapman can be heard exclaiming, his face beaming with excitement after delivering the clutch, game-winning hit for the Athletics. This is Chapman's second walk-off homer of the season, capping off a dramatic come-from-behind victory for Oakland over their American League rival Rays.
