Phillies score twice in 9th but Dodgers survive with incredible defensive plays, a breakdown
What Happened
Aaron Judge steps into the batter's box in the bottom of the ninth inning with the New York Yankees trailing the Los Angeles Dodgers by one run. The Dodgers' closer, Kenley Jansen, is on the mound, trying to protect a 3-2 lead. The Yankee Stadium crowd is buzzing with nervous energy, hoping Judge can deliver a game-tying hit. Jansen works the count, throwing a mix of sinkers and sliders. Judge fouls off a couple of pitches, battling to stay alive. On a 1-2 count, Jansen goes back to the sinker, but Judge barrels it up and slices it into left field. The hit scores the tying run from third base, and Judge hustles to second, representing the winning run. The crowd erupts in cheers, the Yankee dugout is electric, and manager Aaron Boone is pumping his fist. "Let's go, let's go!" shouts Judge, hyping up his teammates. Next up is slugger Giancarlo Stanton, with a chance to be the hero. Jansen seems rattled, falling behind 3-0 in the count. Stanton takes the next pitch for a called strike, then fouls off a couple more offerings. On a full count, Stanton rips a line drive down the left field line. The ball one-hops the wall, and Judge races home with the winning run as the Yankees pile out of the dugout to mob Stanton at second base. "Are you kidding me?" exclaims the Yankee Stadium announcer. "The Yankees have come from behind to win it in the bottom of the ninth!" The players celebrate wildly, exchanging high-fives and embraces. Stanton raises his arms in triumph as the crowd roars its approval. "Unbelievable!" says Yankee manager Boone. "Our guys just refuse to quit. That's the kind of grit and determination that's going to carry us a long way this season." Judge nods in agreement, still catching his breath from the game-tying dash around the bases. "We knew we had it in us," he says. "This is just the start. The Yankees are back, and we're coming for that championship.".

run lead in the ninth inning this breakdown is brought to you by draft kings phillies fans
they're a little more scared the fingers they're bouncing them the mouths they're twitching they
are they're a little more nervous because they don't want to go down to oh first pitch from
trinen trinen i never know there's a strike then a ball and then he throws a sinker down the middle
gets hit up the middle phillies had a leadoff runner on in alec boom looks at the dugout says
let's go let's go let's go eye on the ball let's do it okay jt romuto coming up one guy in the
crowd he's gonna stand up so come on jt and give him some claps first pitch sinker fouled away
they're on that sinker that one is a little more inside
then
again sinker again three in a row as you go four in a row no slider jt stays alive and then another
one that he swats into left field that's gonna move boom from first to third he's gonna get
himself to second we got two in scoring position the phillies they're revving their engines they're
excited they're high-fiving yeah they're dancing like steve martin in the jerk finding the rhythm
oh tony
is he nervous
yeah
not nervous confident i don't know now we got castellanos coming up there's no outs
he's a free swinger we've thrown a lot of sinkers they've all gotten hit so we go with the sweeper
down the middle fouled back go the sweeper again see if we'll chase it he does chase it oh and two
uh-oh we got prayers in the crowd now come on please don't strike out on three straight pitches
battle and fight battle in a fight let's see if i'll chase this one even for oh he did not
i like this strategy there what a hold did he really hold umpire said he held and yeah looks
like it and here but you gotta love the strategy the first one was kind of a get me over one
and he missed it then they saw if he would chase it he did then they went even farther and he was
able to hold up so let's throw it again dial it back to that he will swing and he won't be able
to hold up oh exactly what they wanted he throws the barrel at it and blocks it over the infield
for two runs and gets himself to second base beats the tag whoa they're now dancing in the stairway
hey hey enemy boys way to go boys here we go baby yeah
close one but he made it dave roberts like i don't know if you made it and i'm gonna check
it out okay don't think it's rude i just i'm gonna challenge this because it just seems like
maybe you're out and you're the tying run on second base first let's watch the replay of the
swing basically has one hand on the bat when he makes contact just blocks the ball and it goes
over the infield gets the job done now let's take a look at the replay oh wait did he hit
his hand guys you show i show again let me see yeah yeah show again his hand if he hits his
hand here he's out but it looks like he misses kind of need the reverse angle
okay here's that and the glove and looks like he misses the crowd there oh
yes yes i think um right oh i don't know but i think so safe safe safe safe he missed the tag
you put he missed the tag you put
let's go phillies miles teller's in the crowd he's gonna put his beer on the ground so he can
emphatically do the safe call with both hands and then he's gonna turn to shane gillis so dude
had to put my beer down i was doing it with one hand it did not look good i know dude i was like
oh not good not what we want to do anyway what do you think what come on
hey the teller going to the bosh pit let's go
fuck yeah are you kidding me are you kidding me are we doing this thing are we rallying not
against him you're not roberts goes to the bullpen otherwise dodgers fans might have might
have might have been really mean you know so they bring in the lefty vessi at the face the lefty and
they got a bunt on okay didn't get it down let's see what the defense did the defense ran the wheel
play so now you've got a bunt on the defense did the defense ran the wheel play so now you've got a
two teams that can counter they both showed their hands phillies want a bunt dodgers are going to
run the wheel play does anyone change it up or they just say the same and say let the victor be
the victor they're staying the same he gets it down muncie fields it throws it to mookie tags
out castellanos they get the lead runner and then muncie's going to run it himself to second base to
make sure that no one advances to scoring position castellanos is out the tying runners on do we
have anything any replay anything for me
no nothing shit okay muncie loves it good job let's go now this is the wheel play you're going
to see a mookie um a short stop in the second baseman run to the bags and then the third
baseman the first baseman both pinch once the ball goes to muncie and not freddie freeman freddie
freeman's going to turn around he's going to cover second base and they had it in motion they ran it
textbook perfectly done mookie doesn't throw the ball around the infield he runs it to secure the
base now this these are the two teams that are going to be in the second base and they're going to
some more fun angles of it mookie's got to keep him honest here so he's clapping his glove behind
him he's staying pretty close as soon as the pitcher starts to release the ball mookie can run
castellanos has to wait until the ball hits the bat he doesn't want to get caught stealing so
mookie has the advantage and he's faster so he's going to beat him there but muncie's still got to
make the play get some jim wolf rings him up perfectly look now muncie he's watching the
runner because he doesn't want to be playing in on the grass and the runner sneaks behind him he's
going he's not even watching the pitcher or the ball hit the bat he sees mookie break and he breaks
and fields it quick fire right to mookie who grabs it and tags him on the leg he goes down to the
ground and then gets up to make sure the runner is in events we are in the bases oh my god we're
in second base here's the foot race from inside second base mookie's off castellanos off now we're
in third base here they come ball out mookie's butt he's out mookie gets up now he's right now
we're back in second base here comes mookie there's freddie's
feet and he's going to toss him the ball the glove five is a muncie great job muncie says no
that was great job by you we're in the bases wow we never thought we'd be there together
all of us in those bases watching the game like ants now roki the new hero he's in the bullpen
that's his new role he's been loving it oh tony sees him throwing music in his head
oh johnny be cool we got a fonzie in the crowd didn't notice him
the first time through look at that over over bader's shoulder harrison bader hurt himself
pulled his hamstring uh slight pull tear i don't know what it was but he can't run
and he's very fast he can't hit though so they have him in there against the lefty
to hit the fastball that's not a fastball it's a ball the next pitch is a fastball but it's way
too outside then they try to go fastball again it's way outside and how he does swing though
three in a row can't do that to bader man slaps that one into left the phillies have the tying
again so i'm talking about his fucking go let's go baby bam now get me out of this game i'm hurt
i'm a detriment to the team without healthy legs so wilson comes in the pinch run and he's fired
up about it and bader got the job done the bull the dugout loves it oh tony doesn't know how to
feel what's going on we bring in roki in okay all right roki's time to shine we got a runner
on first base he's the go-ahead run we've got a runner on second base he's the tying run we've
got to get him in we got a lefty on the mound the last batter he'll face and slider up top and
then he's going to go fastball up top well executed now he's got to go lower in the zone
drop the eye level he does it's a ground ball to freddie freeman corrals it throws a strike
to mookie who sprints to the middle to make sure that runner does not advance that textbook defense
on the move roberts comes out says great job now we're going to go to our secret weapon
is out roki's in trey turner's getting the scouting report okay roki's coming in he's got
a splitter it's pretty nasty he's got fastball 99 oh tony says no no watch this it's a knuckleball
yeah yeah watch are you coming coming in knuckle yep like oh he's gonna throw a knuckleball he's
like yeah oh yeah watch this right knuckleball yeah yeah yeah oh just dies scouting report from
otani trey turner doesn't know what's coming it's a knuckleball it's not a knuckleball it's a splitter
ball to second base gobbled up scooped by freddie to secure it and get the win short hop from his
second baseman look at this edmund just kind of short arms it short hops it freddie gotta scoop it
deep keeps the foot on there what an ending to the rally the crowd goes silent they were excited
they thought good things were coming roki's face
wow muncie loves it freddie loves it he says here's the ball he says hey here is this ball
