What Happened

Trevor Bauer of the Cleveland Indians takes the mound in the bottom of the 5th inning, with his team leading the Kansas City Royals 5-3. However, the inning quickly spirals out of control for the right-hander. Royals outfielder Alex Gordon leads off with a bloop single and the sun fights center fielder Oscar Mercado on a routine flyball, resulting in another single. Bauer is clearly frustrated, but he has to focus on the task at hand. The next batter works a full count and on a close 3-2 pitch, Bauer doesn't get the call, loading the bases with no outs. Bauer's frustration grows as a soft flare in front of the plate results in another RBI single, tying the game at 5-5. Bauer appears to be unraveling, muttering to himself, "I just want to [expletive] die, dude. I just want to [expletive] die." Despite the adversity, Bauer manages to strike out the next Royals hitter. However, a ground ball up the middle results in two more runs scoring, giving the Royals a 7-5 lead. Bauer, unable to contain his emotions, grabs the baseball and angrily fires it over the center field wall, much to the dismay of his manager, Terry Francona. Francona rushes out to the mound, visibly upset and Bauer admits, "That's on me. That's just my bad." Francona has seen enough and removes Bauer from the game, the right-hander dejectedly walking back to the dugout. The Royals go on to win the game, handing the Indians a tough loss. Bauer's emotional outburst and frustration with his performance will surely be a talking point in the aftermath of this game.
