Complete gatorade bath failure after Guardians walk off, a breakdown
What Happened
The Cleveland Guardians and Tampa Bay Rays are locked in a scoreless tie in the bottom of the 15th inning in their American League Wild Card Series matchup. Veteran starting pitcher Corey Kluber of the Guardians is on the mound, trying to keep the game knotted. Kluber delivers a perfect pitch on the edge of the strike zone, but the umpire does not give him the call. Unfazed, Kluber throws the same pitch, just a bit more inside and this time it gets smashed for a walk-off home run by the Guardians' star third baseman José Ramírez. The Guardians' dugout erupts in celebration as they punch their ticket to the American League Division Series. Ramírez takes an exaggerated, slow-motion home run trot around the bases, then lets out a massive scream and pumps his fist as he approaches home plate. The Guardians' bench goes wild, with utility player Will Benson sprinting towards the Gatorade cooler to start the celebratory shower. Benson makes a clumsy attempt to dump the cooler, stumbling and stopping short of fully soaking his teammates. Guardians manager Terry Francona and his coaching staff share an embrace, slapping hands and interlocking fingers as they savor the moment. The Gatorade shower continues to go awry, with the cooler slipping out of Benson's hands and spilling onto the ground. Catcher Austin Hedges then takes a tumble after getting tangled up in the mess. Through the chaos, Ramírez can be seen playfully rubbing the bald head of outfielder Óscar González, while left fielder Steven Kwan gets a water bottle thrown at him. Ramírez and first baseman Josh Naylor exchange a big bear hug as the Guardians' improbable postseason run continues. "Unbelievable," declares, summing up the wild scene of celebration on the field.
