The Dodgers take the lead and Brandon Woodruff gets ejected, a breakdown

What Happened

The Milwaukee Brewers are facing elimination against the Los Angeles Dodgers in this crucial Game 2 playoff matchup. Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff, who has enjoyed an excellent 3.05 ERA season, is on the mound in the bottom of the 5th inning with the game still scoreless. Woodruff gets the first out with a strikeout, then faces Dodgers first baseman Cody Bellinger. Bellinger swings and misses at a couple of Woodruff's breaking balls before flicking one into play for a single. Chris Taylor then steps up and rips a single up the middle, putting runners on first and second with one out. Woodruff battles back, getting a double play ball to escape the inning unscathed. As he walks off the mound, however, Woodruff appears to believe he has completed the inning and starts to exit the field. The umpire informs him that he needs to face one more batter and Woodruff becomes visibly upset, believing he should be out of the inning. On a 2-2 count, Woodruff tries to paint the outside corner but doesn't get the call from the umpire. Clearly frustrated, Woodruff kicks his leg in anger, but the next pitch results in a bloop single that scores the go-ahead run for the Dodgers. Mookie Betts then doubles down the line and Woodruff erupts, yelling at the umpire and getting ejected from the game. "You missed it! Fuck you!" Woodruff shouts as he's escorted off the field. The Brewers' season is now on the brink, as the Dodgers have taken the lead in this crucial playoff game. Woodruff's emotional outburst has resulted in his early exit, leaving the Brewers without their ace for the remainder of this elimination game.
